What about a 240 V outlet or a Wall Connector (Level 2)?

A 240 V outlet (for example a NEMA 14-50 on a 50 A breaker) with the Mobile Connector adds up to about 30 miles of range per hour. A Wall Connector adds up to 44 miles per hour, depending on the car. Model 3 and Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive top out at 32 A (about 30 mph) on either one. Have a qualified electrician do the install.

What is Tesla's basic home charging routine?

What charge limit should I set?

Use the limit your car recommends. Open Controls > Charging (or Charging in the Tesla app) and drag the slider. The screen shows Tesla's recommended daily and trip limits for your battery, because different batteries need different routines. The limit applies to both immediate and scheduled charging. For a road trip, slide past the daily limit to get a one-time higher charge that resets afterward.

Can I set a different charge limit or current at home and at work?

Yes. In Controls > Charging you can set a charge limit and a charge current for the current location, and the car remembers it next time. You might lower the current if the circuit is shared with other equipment.

How do I precondition the car before I leave?

Set a ready-to-drive time in Controls > Schedule, or start climate from the Tesla app. Tesla recommends turning climate on at least 30 to 45 minutes before you leave in cold weather. Preconditioning warms the cabin and the battery, which helps range and performance.

How do I get faster Supercharging in the cold?

Navigate to the Supercharger (or a fast charger) with the car's Trip Planner. The car warms the battery on the way so it arrives ready to charge. Tesla suggests starting that navigation 30 to 45 minutes before you arrive. On a short drive, precondition before you leave.

How fast are Superchargers?

Tesla lists up to 162 miles in 15 minutes for Model Y, 175 for Model 3 and Model X, 200 for Model S and 137 for Cybertruck. Real speed depends on battery temperature, charge level and the site. Charging slows as the battery fills, so 80% to 100% takes much longer. Tesla positions Superchargers for long trips and home charging for daily driving.

How much does Supercharging cost and how do I pay?

Prices vary by site and can change by time of day. The price shows on the site's pin on the touchscreen and in the Tesla app before you plug in. You pay automatically through the payment method saved in the Tesla app. Where possible it's billed per kWh, otherwise per minute.

What are Supercharger congestion or idle fees?

In the US, congestion fees apply when a site is busy and your battery is already at or above 80%, or your session has ended. The first five minutes are free, then you're billed until you move the car. Each site's rules show on its pop-up in the car or app. At busy sites the car may also cap your charge at 80%, which you can raise manually.

You can't drive during the install, which takes about 30 minutes or more, and charging pauses until it finishes. Updates won't install while Keep Climate On, Pet Mode or Camp Mode is on. You can't go back to an older version.

After adjusting, drive over 15 mph for a short time so the system updates. If the light flashes for a minute at startup, that's a TPMS fault, so schedule service in the app.
